Five things you must do this week…

Bonfire Night: For the – few – British among us, it’s time to celebrate or commiserate that occasion when someone tried to blow someone else up…or something along those lines. We’re not entirely sure, but we do know you get to spell your name with a sparkler and huddle around an enormous bonfire. East Sands plays host on Monday as English and History Soc throw a truly traditional Guy Fawkes Night, with toasted marshmallows, burning effigies (not the questionable kind) and mulled cider. BYOS – Bring Your Own Sparklers.

Blood Donation Session: Feel like saving someone’s life today? Well this Monday between 12.30pm and 4.30pm you can (provided you meet basic health criteria), in a donation session at Younger Hall. It’s quick, painless, and will make a totally immeasurable difference to someone, so if you can spare half an hour of your day please do go along – it’s truly worthwhile and will probably get you into heaven if there is one.

A.B.C. at Rascals: Excess trash bags at home? Really, really like the pattern on your curtains? Well this is the perfect event for you as the Woman’s Football Club invites you to don Anything But Clothes for their party on Thursday night. Cover yourself in tinfoil, get wrapped in duct tape (ouch), or if you’re feeling really daring just pop a splotch of leftover shaving foam on your naughty bits. You might get arrested before you get to North Street, but you also stand a decent chance of winning the prize for best-dressed.

Full Moon Party: Finally, an event that caters to those of us who didn’t have a chance to jet off on that coveted Gap Yah. It’s not quite cuddling tigers in Burma, or building an orphanage in Vietnam, but we’ve been promised buckets galore and UV body paint. Rascals seems to be the go-to venue this week, and we really hope they’ve turned the heating up as The Polo Club have stipulated a neon beach wear dress code – if anyone actually bought an outfit fitting this description to Scotland, The Stand will be impressed.

One Heart Information Evening: Whilst we’re on the topic of Gap Yahs, if you didn’t have one but still feel the urge to do good in this world, One Heart Source could help. Running a volunteer programme visiting places such as Tanzania, the charity focuses on tutoring children and spreading health messages throughout communities. This Tuesday, past volunteers are running an information session giving you the opportunity to chat with them about their experiences and find out more about getting involved. Go and have a listen if you feel like putting some of your summer towards a really fulfilling cause.

And finally, if you think I’m terrible at telling you what cool things are happening then check out this website, for a much more comprehensive list of the events you need to know about and should be seen at. It even has a ‘highlights’ section showing you the stuff you really must do each week – clever huh?! See you next time readers…or maybe not…
