Auditions for the 13th year of Britain's Got Talent are being held at Southampton this weekend, with Hampshire hopefuls set to perform a variety of acts in an attempt to win the grand prize of £250,000 and the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Show.

The auditions are due to be held at Westquay shopping centre this Saturday 18th August, from 12pm-6pm. Acts are being encouraged to sign up to showcase their talents (whatever their age), however due to the venue restrictions are unfortunately not allowed to use animals, fire, or weaponry at this location.

For those new to this whole BGT thing, it starts with the auditions, held in locations around the country. Successful acts get through to the judge's auditions, which are televised and the best (and worst) of each location broadcast to the country. The judges then make the difficult decision of who they will allow to go through to the live semi-finals. There are a number of semi-finals, in which the successful acts battle to win the affections of the judges and the general public. The most popular two acts from each semi-final progress to the live final, where they perform again and are eliminated one-by-one until a winner is crowned.

As well as the cash prize, the Royal Variety Performance is a chance for the winner to perform alongside other famous and successful acts from around the country, with a member of the Royal Family always in attendance. Previously successful acts include Susan Boyle, Paul Potts and Diversity. Have a look at the BGT website for more info.

So, if you think you have what it takes, hop over to Westquay this weekend and show 'em what you got.
