Following our intense live blog yesterday, the Soton Tab brings you the highlights of this year’s Varsity in Portsmouth. From the funniest action shots to the most impressive scores, we’ve got it covered.
Although it was nowhere near as hot as last year, the chilly weather didn’t stop Team Soton, as we finished the day winning 160-96 and retaining the cup for another year.
Varsity 2015 even saw its very own streaker during the Rugby Men’s Firsts match. Apologies for the bad quality, he ran very fast! If you’ve got a better picture, tweet us @SotonTab.
The best lyrics quoted on the day must go to Team Soton Varsity’s tweet when our Women’s Basketball team crushed Portsmouth an amazing 94-29.
Quidditch takes the award for the most entertaining action shots, as broom handles and balls are found in all sorts of compromising positions.
Recently re-elected VP Student Communities Anjit Aulakh got a bit clingy on the pitch yesterday.
Southampton Men’s Lacrosse also found themselves in some questionable positions.
It was a close call, but we won 56-54 in Tchoukball and this great action shot sums up the match.
We may not have won the dodgeball but our Opinon Editor Joel pulls some great faces!
Winning 8-6 in a tense match with a huge crowd, Southampton Men’s First Team Rugby team celebrate.
Southampton Women’s First Netball team also played brilliantly and beat Portsmouth 56-44.
Jayden the Stag, our cricket mascot, made an appearance to cheer on Team Soton.
Fantastic results were achieved in swimming throughout the day.
VP Sports Development, Katie Lightowler, told us what she thought about the day:
Obviously, yesterday’s win was brilliant. Team Southampton absolutely smashed it. I am incredibly proud to have both competed and helped organise the day. Congratulations and thanks go to all the athletes competed and supporters who cheered us on.
We had a whopping 1,250 people from Southampton in Portsmouth, 400 more than the last time we were there. It was by far the best day (and night out..!) I have had at University in the three years I’ve been here!
Katie wasn’t the only happy Sabb.
