Metro line shut between South Gosforth and Jesmond

It’s because of a burst water main

A burst water main has caused chaos this morning flooding the Metro line, and Jesmond Dene Road.

Due to the flooding there are no trains between South Gosforth and Jesmond on the Metro line. There is a bus service connecting South Gosforth and Haymarket, but it will not stop off on the way due to the flooding. There is no replacement service between the Metro stations due to the burst main.

There is a limited service on from Jesmond towards South Hylton and South Shields via Newcastle, but expect delays and the Metro service advises anyone wishing to go to the city centre from South Gosforth to travel via the Coast.

Further updates from the Tyne and Wear Metro Twitter state that the flood water level at Ilford Road is dropping, and a high volume pump is now at the site.

Here's a video of the flooding this morning. Apologies for continued disruption.
