Nar-row margins as Newcastle beats Durham in Boat Race of the North

It was very close

Our champers quaffing rowers pipped Durham to the trophy in yesterday’s boat race.

Newcastle University beat Durham in a series of close contests that brought thousands of people to the Quayside on Saturday evening.

Both Newcastle and Durham won 2 events each, therefore Newcastle – who won the last race in 2010 – retained the title as the rules dictate.

People lined the Millennium Bridge to watch at the finish

Despite being a wash-out on Saturday morning, the weather held out for the rowers as they battled it out along the 1500m course on the River Tyne.

Novice Women – Durham by 1 and 1/4 lengths

Novice Men – Durham by a whisker
