King’s has risen from 43rd to 31st in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
The rankings are assessed according to the opinions of thousands of invite-only senior academics who scored the reputations of the various university brands purely based on their own ‘subjective judgement’.
Students have reacted positively to the news that KCL has maintained its place as one of best universities in the world.
Connie, a second year linguist, said, ‘I think it’s great – more and more people will be able to see how good a uni KCL is and it shows all our hard work is paying off! I’m sure Ed Byrne is very chuffed!’
Emma, a second year student of French and Classical Studies, said, ‘I think it’s great that King’s is ranked so highly in terms of its teaching and research. The high rankings, improvement and representation of UK institutions as a whole goes to prove the value of the higher education system in the UK; it’s definitely something we should be proud of.’
UCL and LSE have also moved up slightly, with UCL going from 25th to 17th and LSE from 24th to 22nd, provoking mixed reactions from KCL students.
Connie said, ‘I’m sad that the world hasn’t quite yet realised that King’s is better than UCL and LSE. Maybe next year we’ll beat them’.
But others are feeling less bitter. Molly, also a second year French and Classics student, admitted, ‘They are such good institutions so cannot bear any hard feelings in that respect.’
