Homerton College welcomes Naomi Campbell

Yes, The Naomi Campbell!!

| UPDATED

To celebrate Black History Month, Homerton is once again hosting an incredible Black History Month formal. This year, the speaker lineup included The Supermodel, Dr Naomi Campbell. Naomi Campbell is one of the most influential supermodels ever and has achieved incredible things on and off the catwalk.

Naomi Campbell was the first woman to appear on the front cover of Time and Vogue France and has been described as one of the Greatest of All Time in the industry. Throughout her career, she has been outspoken about racial prejudice in the modelling industry and challenged boundaries. She has also been recognised for her activism and charity work, having even founded her own charity Fashion for Relief which aims to use the fashion industry as a force for good.

Naomi Campbell arrived at Homerton College today as a speaker for the Black History Month Formal, where she addressed the students. She expressed the importance of a strong support network, noting the importance of those who supported her during her time in the fashion industry. Naomi told students that she: “has never been one to keep her mouth shut”.

Naomi Campbell shared a life lesson to the students at the formal, articulating that success and failure are concepts which students must define for themselves. Campbell shared: “Success is giving it everything you’ve got, pouring your heart and soul into your dreams” and that “inaction is failure”. Campbell’s speech was inspiring, and a testament to the ground-breaking role model that she is, and continues to be.

Naomi Campbell is someone we should all aspire to. In my opinion, she is the embodiment of resilience and an example of someone who utilises their platform to speak out and take action on issues that are important to her. And she serves looks whilst doing it.

To have the legend Naomi Campbell speak at Homerton is truly a privilege.
