Where to take your parents when they come to Oxford

MNB?

Believe it or not, there actually is more to Oxford than just Fuzzies and Bridge.

It’s absolutely crucial to know the places that are our your normal student price range when your parents make a sneaky trip down and you find yourself having to impress them because the student house is just not sufficient enough.

The Tab have given you a perfect run through of the best places to take your parents for a good glimpse of Oxford – especially when they offer to pay.

Afternoon tea

Oxford, being the posh place it is, offers abundant amounts of places to take your parents for quaint sandwiches and various teas and coffees.

The Randolf, Quod, Turl Street Kitchen and the Grand Café serve up a storm when it comes to anything English and around 4pm.

Dinner and drinks

Dinner is always a fun one to play around with because there are so many options to go for. Oxford has everything, from Indian to Italian, French to Thai – and all pretty exceptional as well.

If any place is my ultimate favourite, it would have to be Pierre Victoire in Jerricho. That place is a gem for any form of French cuisine you could ask for.

Of course there are many other places to go but Jericho is a perfect destination to really impress. But following that, you are in prime location for cocktail bars and wine bars that your parents may enjoy too.

On the other side of the street is Raoul’s, which is actually rated one of the top cocktail bars in Britain (according to them, that is).

But if you are looking for somewhere to go in town to really blow your parents away, it would have to be the rooftop bar at Varsity. Let’s be real, showing your parents the scenery from up there usually wins the hearts for most people – of course you would need to ensure they’ll be able to climb the stairs to get up there.

The best views

A good location to go to also could be the Head of The River, which is down St. Aldates for a good Thame-side pub meal. After, you can then spoil them by taking them on a walk of the Christchurch meadows – I mean, how much more Oxford could you get?

Another Thames-side pub everyone needs to go to is the Trout Inn, which not only has lush food, but a view and ambience to impress. If mum and dad are paying, why not get the best food you can?

But to be 100 per cent honest, we live in such a beautiful city really that all you have to do is shimmy off of Cowley Road and Headington in order to impress them.

It’s a perfect place to be in order to assure your parents that your life is in check.
