Architects flooded out of Abercrombie

A water pipe burst in Abercrombie building, flooding the building and destroying work.

| UPDATED

The Abercrombie building was flooded by a burst water pipe earlier this morning. The leaking water destroyed architects models and prints on the fourth floor.

The flood occurred just metres from the new £16.2million extension and raises questions about the transition into the new spaces.

Water and irony fell in equal amounts, creating chaos across the Architecture Department.

This is a worrying sign for the University just before they make the move into the John Henry Brookes Building next week. The Abercrombie building is part of the same redevelopment and there will be fears that these compatibility problems may be mirrored across the £132 million complex.

Architects claim finding the fourth floor flooded is too familiar.

Third year Architect Ed said, ” A couple of weeks ago the pipe burst above my locker and destroyed my work inside.”

An Architect who didn’t wish to be named said, “It has happened before and it is annoying, but most of our work was backed up.”

Thought to be the offending pipe

Just as we thought the rain had stopped and the Oxfordshire floods would reside, we find the 4th floor of Abercrombie underwater.

A spokeswoman for the University sent The Tab this statement: “A heating pipe had a faulty connection which caused the leak. This has now been fixed and we have checked all other connections too.”

The fourth floor was reopened, shortly after the flood was cleared up.
