‘Old Man Bridge’ Explored

The Tab examines the rumours behind Oxford’s resident, ageing nightclubber

| UPDATED bridge old man bridge simon

Those regular nightclub goers of Oxford will be well acquainted with the likes of Simon, or as he is more commonly known, ‘Old Man Bridge’. Simon has become a celebrated figure amongst the Brookes students always willing to pose for pictures and drive you into town on nights out (what was is that your parents said about never getting into cars with strangers?) You can always be sure that he’ll greet you with a smile, handshake, and if you’re lucky a kiss, even if he clearly has no idea who you are.

I guess the question of Simon’s profession and passion for Oxford nightlight has been on everyone’s mind, and so to the rumours…

I heard that Old Man Bridge is writing a book about student life

The most popular rumour flying around Brookes is that our dear friend Simon is in fact writing a paper on the behavioural habits of students. And where better to study them than in their natural territory, the nightclub. If this is true, then why Simon did we catch you passed out on the sofa in a club? Were you trying to emulate the students you’re meant to be studying? Surely you shouldn’t been drinking on the job, or perhaps all the partying’s caught up with you?

Napping on the job

Old Man Bridge is Oxford’s version of Hugh Hefner

Yet another passing comment I heard from somebody recently, comparing Simon to ageing party lover and pervert Hugh Hefner. I’m not too sure how I’d feel about being compared to the master of the playboy mansion, but I guess Simon likes all the female attention he gets judging by these photos

Polite conversation or a chat up line too far?

Is it true that Old Man Bridge owns half of Oxford?

Does he own half of Oxford? Does he have shares in Bridge/Camera/Clems? Now I don’t know about you, but if I did own most of Oxford, I’m sure I could think of better things to be doing with my time and money than hanging out in grimy student nightclubs?

Daytime disguise

I guess we will never really know much about Old Man Bridge but whatever the reason he is living proof that you are never to old to party.
