Burst Radio: Picks Of The Week

To christen their new Tab column, Burst Radio pick their highlights from this week’s schedule

Burst Radio, everyone’s favourite Bristol-based student radio station is back, with an all-new schedule for Teaching Block 2.

To complement this, we’ve also scored ourselves a weekly article on the Tab. Time to strap yourself in and feel the G’s.

Wherever you look on campus, you’ll find Burst – our immeasurable fingers in innumerable pies.

You may have seen us shouting at passers-by during our festive outside broadcast on Tyndall Avenue.

Or maybe you’ve been at one of our regular pub quizzes in your hall?

Starter For Ten…

We’ve been hanging around campus for years now, and although you might have been paying more attention to whether anyone noticed how fantastic you’re looking in the ASS, we’re committed to making your Bristol Uni experience as rewarding as possible.

As well as being an unstoppable force for good on campus, we also happen to make high quality radio-based entertainment. Why not tune in?

There’s nothing like hearing the voice on the talk-box reference all of the things essential to a Bristol student’s life, whether it be Lizard Lounge, Jason Donervan or anonymously confessing to something disgusting on Facebook.

Dying to listen to Burst but don’t know where to start? This new weekly article is here to help. With our new schedule up and running here are our picks for this week.

MONDAY 3pm: Pillow Talk

Listen to Rory and Ro get involved in the eternal gender debate.  Ro hates Christmas.

TUESDAY 4pm: EUROTRASH

Excited for your year abroad? Or yearning to relive the glory days of your squalid Parisian apartment? Let this madcap duo take you abroad with some ridiculous European music that only a languages student could truly care for.

WEDNESDAY 6pm: Hubbub

Let the lovely women of Bristol Hub massage your ears with audible sustainability. Enough to make you want to live for a better tomorrow.

FRIDAY 5pm: Scandalmakers with The Bristol Tab

Institutional nepotism makes the world go round. We give the Tab a radio show, they let us use our words on their award-winning (we assume) website.

This weekly show is filled with all of the goodness that you get from the Tab website, but conveniently read to you by their appealing voices. Perfect for blind friends or relatives.

In the coming weeks this column will bring you interviews and clips from the very best of Burst’s esteemed presenting team and no show is more highly esteemed than the leviathan which is Craic Whores (Wednesdays 5pm).

Winners of the prestigious Society and Media Award for ‘Best Show’ in 2012, the Craic Whores are a loveable Irish duo with a penchant for the irreverent.

Be it broadcasting live from space or impersonating the Queen on-air (before doing so got bad press) the show is deservedly the most ‘liked’ of any of Burst’s current shows on Facebook.

One for the CV…

Describe by the National Student Radio Awards as ‘naturally funny’, the lads make no bones about why you should listen to them: ‘because the English are directly responsible for the hardships inflicted upon the Irish during the Great Potato Famine of 1845-1852. You owe us big.’

Listen to the show’s 7 minute best of compilation here.

These are exciting times at Burst radio- if you enjoyed the sound of our aforementioned pies, why not get in touch and get involved?
