Strike two: BU staff to picket tomorrow over pay

Striking staff = no uni tomorrow. Woohoo!

Some lecturers and staff at Bournemouth University confirmed that they would go on strike again on December 3rd over pay claims.

The ‘campaign for fair pay’, organised by Unison, the University and College Union, Unite and the Educational Institute of Scotland, argues that the pay has been cut by 13% since October 2008.

University employers, including Bournemouth University, offered a 1% pay rise to the staff, which has been rejected. The dispute caused a first strike on Thursday, October 31st.

If you are going to have a free day tomorrow, here is what The Tab recommends for tonight:

– Hitting the Media Masquerade Ball for pre-drinks and then going to the after-party at Lost Gardens. Definitely the smartest event of this end of term.

– Heading to Halo for the Jumper Party. £2.50 all night and you don’t even have to dress up smart. The easy solution.

– Pretending to be an Arts University Student at the Old Fire Station for their Xmas Party

In case you still manage to wake up before 5pm, you can always go to the Christmas Market in the town centre to enjoy the ice-skating rink and buy tacky hats and scarves. Just have a sip of mulled wine at the German Alpine Bar, think of your lecturers freezing on the picket lines, and enjoy life.
