A second year was approached by a group of men who demanded he clear out his account as he walked home from a night out.

The student – who wishes to remain anonymous – had just left Club 6 and was walking down Broad Street when three older men spotted him and marched him to the nearest cashpoint.

Fortunately, patrolling police saw the incident unfolding and managed to rescue him from the ordeal.

The incident occurred on Broad Street

The police used the student’s contact list on his phone to get him home in a taxi, as his concerned housemates waited and looked after him with “superb” care.

He said: “I am very lucky to not be able to recall the situation due to my drunken antics, otherwise I would probably feel very traumatised.

“I can’t quite believe it happened. The police saved my student loan as well as me.”
