Omg, there’s a Uni of York alumna on Strictly this year!

Ellie Taylor studied English Literature at York

No, it’s not Longboi but comedy legend Ellie Taylor!

Comedian Ellie Taylor is starring on Strictly Come Dancing this year and studied English Literature at York.

She was a keen member of York’s Drama Society and told York Vision: “I have wonderful memories of performing in the [Drama] Barn. I think I did three or four plays and I loved every minute.”

Since leaving York she has been waltzing her way to a number of notable media credits, including appearances on 8 out of 10 cats, Mock the Week and the recent comedy-drama Ted Lasso.

Last night, Ellie scored 29/40 with her partner Johannes Radebe (who was the professional runner-up in the last series) with a Tango to the theme from Casualty to celebrate 100 years of the BBC.

On whether she has any dancing experience, Ellie said: “I retired from tap and ballet dancing aged seven, so aside from doing some sort of macarena mini-disco on European holidays with my child, no!”

From all of us at York, we wish you the best of luck Ellie!
