Police held the couple outside while police dogs were sent inside the property.

Maths student Thomas Hayes lives on the street with his 5 housemates and watched the drama unfold from a bedroom window.

“It all kicked off around half 9 when I heard ‘Get out the house. Police!’ I opened my blinds to a policeman with a machine gun.”

He added: “We all felt excited, it was like watching a Ross Kemp show.”

The road in mainly occupied by students, however the couple in questions are thought to be locals.

Despite the events, the third year said that he still feels safe living there.

“I still feel safe, as long as we’re not stupid enough to get involved.”
