Freshers: You have spent £2.5 million this week

You won’t even be able to show the parents what you did with it

On average a Trent fresher will spend £533.60 in the first week. You’d better have been saving this summer.

With just over £2,600,000 spent between 5000 students as you all desperately attempt to re-invent yourselves from the “buzzing for the weekend” Facebooker to the new, but not necessarily improved, student version of you.

About half of that’s going towards joining the sport social you were snatched up by at the Fresher’s Fair.

We’ve added up all of the essentials of the first week of uni and the results on your bank balances are really shocking.

Fresher’s wristband plus – £36.50

A group taxi back to halls each night for 8 nights – £16

Fancy Dress – £20 – and that’s only the basics.

Pre drinks – roughly £7.50 a night

8 nights drinking out – £64

Bumbag. Yes a bumbag – £6

Chunky Chicken a few nights in the week – £12

Wetherspoons Big Breakfast at the end of the week – £4.60 and 1463 Calories. This might see you right after an 8 day bender but you won’t be able to look at yourself for a while.

Gym Membership – £99

Katie Michaels a 2nd year broadcast journalism student, said: “I think spending 500 pound and over in freshers week is a ridiculous amount of money but as a fresher you expect it and I think many of students like myself work the summer before uni to be afford freshers week and take part in all of its madness.”
