Brighton residents get experimental with a rise in orders of sex toys

“I’ve just noticed there will be the usual thing, then there’s something on the whackier end of sexual taste on there.”

With the extra time spent at home due to lockdown, sex shops are enjoying the profits of increased business.

In a recent interview with The Arugs, Brighton sex toy shop owners revealed they’ve had an increase in rechargeable sex toys: “people don’t want to go out and buy batteries” explained Calandra Balfour from Lust, “They can’t go out and get batteries in the middle of the night when it goes or whatever”.

“We’ve noticed people are buying more unusual things,”, said Tim Richardson, Calandra’s husband, who believes Brighton residents are exploring their adventurous side. “I’ve just noticed there will be the usual thing, then there’s something on the whackier end of sexual taste on there… like someone’s just gone ‘shall we try that as well?'”

Calandra and her husband own the family run shop and were featured in a Channel Four documentary last year.

Tim Balfour suggests “They’re probably getting bored with regular sex so they’re now looking at experimenting more… That’s something lockdown has really opened up for us.”

Despite being closed during lockdown, deliveries continue, and they are both trying to keep up with demand. Their online business is booming, with an abundance of orders from their regular customers. “Sometimes we can get it to them within an hour or two, even faster than Amazon.”

Tim, in charge of deliveries, takes a non-contact approach when delivering, leaving the box on the customer’s doorstep. “I stay to make sure they’ve got it.”

Brighton residents seem to be making the most of their time spent indoors.
