This year’s Kate Kennedy May Ball offers the opportunity to “add a touch of luxury to your day” and make a grand entrance in a helicopter.

Patrons of the 2012 May Ball are being offered the chance for a £99 ‘Gold Upgrade’, which includes a trip from St Andrews to Kinkell Byre in a stretch limo. Not opulent enough? In addition to all the usual fanfare of arriving at May Ball (bagpipers, fairground rides etc), golden ticket-holders will be guided to their own helicopter for an aerial tour of St Andrews Bay. However, if you don’t have a Dinner ticket, your grand entrance will end with you being shuttled back into St Andrews until the party gets going later in the evening.

Although it is not yet clear how many Gold upgrades have been purchased, The Stand (and the rest of the student body) is eagerly awaiting to see who has the May Balls to take up the offer.

Bella, a 2nd year told The Stand, “I think its such a nice idea. Seeing the town from the sky as the sun sets would be amazing.” Meanwhile, Stand columnist Jamie Ross commented, “With each passing day here, I become a little bit more certain that the Kate Kennedy Club is just an audaciously elaborate practical joke specifically designed to annoy me.”

How will you be getting to May Ball?
