OMG! Prince Edward has been spotted taking a stroll around the Toon

Newcastle had its second royal visit in a year today when Prince Edward, brother to King Charles III, was seen arriving at Newcastle’s Northumberland Street in an unannounced visit.

The Earl of Wessex was there to thank emergency workers and volunteers for their response following the death and funeral of The Queen.

The youngest son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, was seen in the city centre greeting large crowds at 12pm today.

He met with representatives from Northumbria Police, the North East Ambulance Service and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue service at Newcastle City Library who were involved with Operation London Bridge, as well as people who helped arrange tributes in the North East for the late Queen Elizabeth II.

It is also believed met charity and community group volunteers for a coffee morning.

A number of Police officers were seen around the area this morning making security checks and reassuring the public.

This is the second time a member of the Royal Family has been in Newcastle this year, after Princess Anne visited Northumbria University and Exhibition Park in February.
