Leicester snaps up 38th ‘Selfiest City’ spot

According to study conducted by TIME magazine, Leicester has ranked as the 38th ‘selfiest’ city in the world.

Leicester has been ranked 38th in the world for taking the most selfies, according to a recent TIME article.

The official statistics suggest there are 53 selfie-indulgent people per 100,000 living in Leicester, making a total of 180 in the city.

The figure might seem lower than many would have thought, but the study only takes into account those who upload their faces to photo sharing website, Instagram, tagged as a ‘selfie’.

Manchester topped the UK chart, ranking 7th globally, with 114 selfie takers per 100,000 people, more than three times as many as Leicester.

Leeds and Liverpool followed closely behind, proving that the North cannot get enough of their own faces. Surprisingly, London came a lowly 93rd, with only 32 selfie-takers per 100,000 people.

The top city in the world for taking selfies is Makati City and Pasig in the Philippines, with a whopping 258 selfie-takers per 100,000 people. Not bad for an economic capital.

Manhattan and Miami rounded off the top three, with 202 and 155 selfie-takers per 100,000 respectively.

Perhaps Leicester might still have a chance to redeem itself in the rankings…
