Ten reasons why Waterloo campus is the worst

There’s no denying it – it’s everyone’s least favourite campus

King’s College London’s Waterloo Campus is the most recently opened and refurbished campus in the year 2000.

It is known to be the new, modernised campus that is just a stone’s throw away from the London Southbank Centre, the BFI IMAX cinema and the National Theatre whilst overlooking the astounding views of Waterloo Bridge.

However, as a student studying there, it isn’t quite the bed of roses I expected. Especially in comparison to all the other campuses. Here are the top 10 reasons why it is the worst campus:

1. Campus?

It does not suffice to be called a campus, rather just a single, lonely building.

2. Lecture Theatres

There are no real lecture theatres. There are just small classrooms. I’m sorry I thought we were at University not at primary school.

3. Dull.

It is dark and dull with only one blue neon light lit inside the building, it has a spooky aura to it when you have been slaving in the library ’till late.

4.Traditional

King’s is known for its rich architecture and heritage with all of their campuses. However, there is absolutely nothing authentic about it.

5. Attraction

Each campus has an attractive element to it that stands out; Guys campus holds the pretty gardens and Strand has he beautiful Chapel. What do we have? Lifts.

6. Views

Whilst daydreaming in lectures, Guys campus students gaze out to skyscrapers like the Shard and Strand Campus students admire Somerset House. Over at Waterloo we make do with watching skateboarders prepare to do tricks that never actually happen around Waterloo Bridge.

7. Food

We have no Costa, McDonald’s or fancy Café’s on campus; we just have one crappy canteen which has appalling hospitality. Clearly the canteen staff have not been trained with the ‘service with a smile’ motto.

8. Unnoticeable

The campus is tucked away on Stanford Street. Let’s face it, if there wasn’t those flags put up there nobody would even realise King’s existed there.

9. Traffic

Getting there from Waterloo Station is a death trap. Trying to cross the roundabout and the main road to get to the Franklin Wilkins Building is a daily life-threatening experience as you dodge and squeeze between cars at the traffic lights.

10. No fun

In between lectures there is nowhere for students to relax and hang out like the Spit, Waterfront/Guys Bar except for the overcrowded canteen where the chances of getting a corner booth are practically impossible.

So count yourselves lucky if you’re at Strand or Guys (not Denmark Hill, because nobody even knows where your campus is).
