The cannabis movement appears to accelerate every year, with Cannabis Social Clubs forming and local events happening to celebrate the 20th of April.

Usually it is London that is notorious for these events, but Glasgow has seemingly overtaken this year with the all-day 420 Hempstock Festival at Glasgow Green. The festival has been ongoing for a number of years but it looks like 2016 is set to be the biggest and most public yet.

The lineup

A multitude of bands from different genres will play, including “Roots Collective” and “Main Ingredient”. There will also be stalls and raffles – prizes include “hemp food, fibre, materials and extracts”.

To celebrate its fifth year, Hempstock festival will also feature speakers from across the UK to speak out against the prohibition of cannabis and have their say.

George Square held a similar event last year where 600 people attended. They enjoyed live music, soft drinks, a snack stall and a raffle, but organisers are said to be excited about this year’s effort due to the location of Glasgow Green.

Glasgow is famed for its festivals

The festival hopes to raise support for the decriminalisation of cannabis.

Glasgow is fast becoming a festival hotspot, and is also hosting the Summer Sessions at Bellahouston Park later this summer.
