When will Strathclyde strip Oscar Pistorious of honourary degree

He was given a doctorate only 12 months before shooting his girlfriend

Strathclyde University have been urged to strip Oscar Pistorius of his honourary degree after he was jailed for killing his girlfriend.

Pistorius was presented the doctorate at a ceremony just 12 months before the incident.

This week the Parlaympian was given a 5-year jail sentence for killing Reeva Steencamp in their shared home.

Glasgow Women’s Aid have criticised University bosses for not having withdrawn the accolade sooner.

Speaking to Scotland Now, Susan Jack from Women’s Aid Glasgow said: “For the university to say, ‘OK, we know this happened but we’re going to keep this in place’ sends out a dangerous message.”

But a University spokesperson has replied: “We are aware of Judge Masipa’s verdict and a decision regarding Oscar Pistorius’s honorary degree will be made in line with university procedures.”
