Fourth week of pro-Palestine protests in Cambridge city centre

Hundreds of students, staff and members of the public gathered in Cambridge city centre today (04/11) to show their support for Palestine in the fourth consecutive week of public protests.

The march began at 1.30pm on Kings Parade and moved down through Pembroke Street in the direction of St Andrew’s Street. Marchers included members of Unite (the union), and the Cambridge People’s Assembly Against Austerity.

After pro-Palestinian slogans were projected onto King’s College chapel last night (03/11) and an open letter amassed the signatures of 34 societies, 117 members of staff and 1,086 students there is no end in sight for collective action in Cambridge at the moment.

The projected images were intended to mark the 106th anniversary of the Balfour declaration in 1917, in which the British Foreign Secretary agreed to support the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine.

Pro-Palestine march continues down Trumpington Street

One X (formerly Twitter) user posted that the turnout today was “in very large numbers“, while another commented that protestors voiced their disagreement with Keir Starmer, the current Labour party leader. With more protests likely planned for next week, the pressure on the University to cut ties with Israel only increases.
