Clothes have increasingly become a fundamental component of TV drama, with fictional characters becoming real-life fashion icons. Reflecting each character in their clothes further develops their personalities, making viewers feel more connected.

Josh Schwartz and his team first proved their fashion credentials with The O.C., where clothes soon became one of the main attractions of the show. After each episode, fan sites listed details of pieces from the show so that viewers could track down the exact clothes worn by their favourite characters. A seemingly unending budget allowed for an impressive array of up to date pieces and characters even wore pieces straight off the runway (who can forget Marissa’s $18000 Chanel prom dress!)

Following The O.C., Josh Schwartz and his team have continued the sartorial success with Gossip Girl. Clothes are integral to defining each character and keep the fans tuning in to see what will be worn next. The most covetable wardrobe has to be that of Blair Waldorf, the queen bee who never fails to look as sharp as the cutting remarks she delivers.

Polished, preppy and perfect are three of the words that spring to mind when describing Blair’s style. Though her looks are very pulled-together, tailored and classic, a definite high-fashion spin keeps her style interesting and up to date.

Blair Waldorf was solely responsible for bringing back patterned tights, bows, ruffles and lace into our lives – girlish details that seemed out of place and even childish until she stepped onto our screens. While her constant wearing of hairbands can be a tad excessive and Season One’s supposedly “school uniform” outfits were bit improbable, Blair’s highly defined sense of personal style is what makes her truly enviable.

Like The O.C., Gossip Girl includes plenty of different events for the characters to swan around in a full range of clothing: from sumptuous ballgowns to gorgeous cocktail and day dresses (all from an assortment of top designers: Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Herve Leger, Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, Marchesa to name a few). No detail is overlooked and all accessories are carefully selected: “Louboutin peep toes – ALWAYS!”

Whatever the occasion, Blair is dressed to the nines and her distinctive style definitely places her as one of the current leading TV fashion icons. XOXO
