Tab poll results: Tories edge Labour among Bristol students

And the Greens are more popular than the Lib Dems

Over a third of Bristol students will vote for the Conservatives tomorrow, making them the most popular party at UoB.

In yesterday’s Tab poll the Tories received the backing of 34 per cent of students, while Labour lagged behind with 28 per cent.

Despite this, Claire Hiscott, the Conservative candidate in Bristol West, isn’t expected to win a place in the House of Commons tomorrow, with the Electoral Calculus giving her just a 3 per cent chance of success.

The Green Party pipped the Liberal Democrats into third place with 16 per cent.

David Cameron and company were most popular with first years, while third years were split between the Tories and Labour with both receiving 33 per cent of the votes.

Despite breaking their promise to cut tuition fees, the Liberal Democrats haven’t lost the student vote entirely. Second years in particular continue to stand by Nick Clegg with 22 per cent of them pledging their vote to the Lib Dems, only three per cent less than the number supporting Labour.

The Bristol West seat is currently held by the Liberal Democrats and despite their decline in popularity with students they are expected to hold the seat of Bristol graduate and former Wills Hall resident Stephen Williams MP.

Only two per cent of respondents said they weren’t planning to vote at all, and the same number of students intend to vote for UKIP.

Five per cent of students remain undecided, with under 24 hours to go until the polling stations open.
