Armed police detain ‘man with a gun’ in Bournemouth town centre

A 31-year old Bournemouth man has been detained


Police have responded to reports of a man threatening people with a gun close to the BH2 complex in Bournemouth town centre.

Armed police descended on the situation, and a police helicopter could be seen circling the area overhead.

There have been additional reports of armed police presence on Madeira Road.

A police spokesperson said: “Dorset Police was called at 2.37PM today, to a report of a man with a gun in the Subway near Dean Park Road in Bournemouth”.

Firearms officers swiftly carried out a search of the area.

The spokesperson said: “A 31-year old Bournemouth man was detained in the Lower Gardens area of Bournemouth.

“He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and is currently assisting officers with their enquiries”.
