Stop what you’re doing: The King’s Tab is looking for new writers AND content creators

It’s that time of the year again: The King’s Tab is officially looking for new students to join the team, and this year, we want writers and content creators. 

Whether you have always fancied giving journalism a go, you love making TikTok’s, or are simply looking for something fun to do alongside your degree, we want to hear from you. 

We will be holding our first open meeting of the academic year on October 1st, 5 pm at The Vault on Strand Campus (Bush House) where you can meet the editorial team, find out how everything works, pitch ideas and get involved. 

And the best part: No experience is needed!

What is The Tab?

The Tab is a national youth site covering everything from fun features to breaking news stories. We are written for students, by students, and almost every major city in the UK has its own university Tab branch, including Bristol, Manchester and Edinburgh. 

At The King’s Tab, we cover pretty much everything happening in and around KCL. That can mean breaking news and campus drama one minute, and the most unserious guide to King’s students imaginable the next. 

If you are interested in journalism, you will get the opportunity to write about the hot topics that King’s students are talking about, whether that is university news or student issues.

Some of the news stories we have written this year include:

• King’s College London student becomes an MP after winning parliamentary by-election
• King’s College London places in UK top 10 in QS World University Rankings 2027
• KCL student represents herself in legal action after being quoted £25,000 to fight wrong grade

But if news is not your thing, we also love features, guides, memes, pop culture and generally anything that makes you think: “Every King’s student needs to see this.”

Not a writer? We still want you!

This year, we are also looking for people who want to help create content for The King’s Tab social media too, whether that be doing vox-pops, news greenscreens and student advice videos. 

So, if you know your way around TikTok and Reels, are always the person taking videos on a night out, or you just have loads of ideas for funny student content, this could be for you. 

You definitely do not need to be a professional content creator either. If you are creative and have ideas about what King’s students would want to see, that is more than enough to get started. 

Why should I join?

Writing for The King’s Tab means your work can be read by hundreds of students, while giving you actual published pieces to add to your portfolio. For anyone interested in journalism, marketing or social media, it is a useful way to build experience while you are still at uni. 

You will also receive support from the editorial team throughout the process as well as our Assistant Editor at The Tab HQ in London, so you absolutely do not need to come knowing how to write the perfect article. 

It is also super flexible. We have no minimum amount of articles you need to write, so you can get involved as much or as little as you like!

And, most importantly, you will get to be part of a team of people who are equally as invested in everything going on at King’s as you.

Come along to our open meeting at 5 pm at The Vault on Strand Campus (Bush House) on October 2nd to meet us, hear more about The King’s Tab and find out how you can get involved as either a writer or a content creator.
