Family of Luigi Mangione share statement following arrest over UnitedHealthcare CEO murder

The family of Luigi Mangione has issued a statement, following his arrest over the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson.
Brian Thompson was killed in New York last week, whilst on his way to an insurance conference. Now, the man who was previously wanted in connection to his death has been arrested. Luigi Mangione was found after a tip-off from a member of the public, and later charged.
Yesterday, 26-year-old Luigi Mangione was arrested whilst in a McDonald’s and since then his family has released a statement about what happened. He has been charged with murder, as well as three gun charges and forgery. His family said they only know as much as has already been reported in the media, and said they are “shocked and devastated” by the arrest.
Luigi Mangione family statement in full:
“Unfortunately, we cannot comment on news reports regarding Luigi Mangione. We only know what we have read in the media. Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest. We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved. We are devastated by this news.”
Luigi Mangione is a computer science graduate, and is understood to have come from a wealthy family in a Maryland community. He was raised in Towson, outside Baltimore, with his family owning two country clubs, as well as a radio station.
The full statement was obtained by NBC News. It added Mangione was initially cooperative with the officers who arrested him, but his approach has changed. “He was initially cooperative,” Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said at a news conference. “He is not now.”
Luigi Mangione has been denied bail.
