Here’s what we know so far about healthcare CEO shooting suspect Luigi Mangione

He was arrested after being spotted in a McDonald’s

Luigi Mangione has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of United Healthcare’s CEO, Brian Thompson, with the shooting happening last week in New York City. The 26 year old has been charged with murder and four other counts, but here’s what we know about Luigi Mangione so far.

Luigi was arrested on firearms charges after he was recognised in a McDonald’s after police found a ghost gun on him, alongside a three page written document which indicated “motivation and mindset” according to law enforcement.

Luigi came from a wealthy family and attended a private, all boys school in Baltimore called Gilman School and was even named as valedictorian whilst he was studying there. His family have since released a statement about his arrest saying they’re “shocked and devastated.”

The school costs up to $37,000 (£29,000) per year to attend and following his success there he went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania, which is one of the most prestigious Ivy League schools in America.

It seems he studied computer science and following his time at the university launched his own computer game company. According to his LinkedIn, he then worked full time as a date engineer for True Car, a vehicle resale platform based in California and worked there for four years until the present day.

When Luigi Mangione was found he had a three page written manifesto on him.

He reportedly wrote in the manifesto: “To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn’t working with anyone,” adding that healthcare companies “continue to abuse our country for immense profit because the American public has allowed them to get away with it.”

He also reportedly wrote that “these parasites had it coming” and “I do apologise for any strife and trauma, but it had to be done.”
