If you have these seven things in your university room, I’m afraid you’re a posh girl

Never mind where the library is! The purpose of Freshers Week is obviously to sus out what your new university flatmates are like. To help you judge people by their appearances, here are seven sure signs in your flatmate’s room that they’re boujie.

If you have these seven things in your university room, then I’m afraid you’re certified posh.

At least this one isn’t bright blue!

Never trust anybody who publicises which school they went to. They’ll keep banging on about how unjust the head girl selection committee were, when they’re 55, and in a job interview.

Red flags

You can’t learn everything about a person from what they put on the pinboard in their uni room. However, you can tell learn a good 90 per cent about them.

Scan the photos for indicators of poshness such as ski holidays, black labradors, random children they encountered on their gap year, and sunsets over the beaches of five-star all-inclusive hotels in the Maldives. Keep your eyes peeled for any parents you’d be scared to speak to, and any boats you’d like to attend a birthday party on.

Brand new boujie cookery books

Clearly, their parents thought a fresh copy of Ottolenghi Simple Too would be a substitute for actual life experience.

White linen trousers

Kudos to these girls for keeping their clothes sand-free

By donning a pair of white linen trousers, you are signally to the world that you have no intention of doing any washing-up today.

Hockey and/or lacrosse stick

Proficiency at certain sports indicates your flatmate went to a private boarding school, and actually liked it. Beware hockey sticks, polo mallets, and lacrosse sticks (that’s the sport Emma Roberts plays in Wild Child, pictured above for reference).

Is your flatmate is modelling a puffer jacket embroidered with the insignia of the dressage team from St Taggie’s Academy for Young Tories? Run while you still can.

Matching mugs

a fancy-looking teacup

This one sure is cute though

Taking a complete set of floral teacups to uni indicates an excess of money, and a deficiency of common sense. When your new flatmate Penelope Campbell-Pemberley offers you a cup of lavender-infused earl grey, inspect the vessel. If it’s a mug from Le Creuset or Emma Bridgewater, they’re posh. If it’s a teacup from Spode or Wedgewood, they’re so unbelievably posh that they’ve inherited more china dinner services than they know what to do with.

My Waitrose card

This is self-explanatory.
