Society Spotlight: Sussex drama society showcase

An evening of University of Sussex talent

SUDS (Sussex University Drama Society) held their yearly showcase on November 14th. This annual event allows everyone who is a member of the university of show off their talents, whether that be stand up comedy or performing one of your own songs. It also meant a great, cheap night on campus for students to happily sit back and enjoy the talent on offer.

Kaya Brown, the social secretary of SUDS, who helped organised the evening

Although SUDS organised the event, a variety of societies performed in Room 76. The salsa society opened the night with a group dance performance, the show choir performed Crazy by Gnarls Barkley and Viva La Vida by Coldplay, the comedy society and SUDS performed their own a short sketch, a Sussex band Blue Velvet performed and Alex Hudson did her first ever stand up gig (which was brilliant).

The audience also joined in on the fun by all playing an improv game, ‘Press Conference’. If you’re not sure what it involves then have a google because it’s excellent for pre-drinks. And to guide everyone along this amazing talent was Emi, the MC for the evening. Not only was Emi great at keeping the crowd entertained, she performed some stand up comedy throughout the evening by reading from her 12 year old journal.

Overall the evening was a huge success, and allowed Sussex to show what it’s students have to offer. If you’re interested in joining any of the societies mentioned above then have a search on Facebook and see what they have to offer, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
