Here are the 10 things you’ll definitely miss about Warwick over Christmas

Wednesdays won’t be the same without POP!

Finally we're back at home for the holidays, enjoying regular meals and clean clothes, and having a well deserved break after 10 weeks at uni. However, there are some quirks that you'll undeniably miss about the Warwick bubble while you're away, even if you don't want to admit them.

Your uni friends

Even though you might be meeting up with the Zante 2016 girls chat over the Christmas break, you can't help but miss your uni friends. Your home friends might be great, but have you ever seen them do a sock pint or try and fight a campus goose? You'll miss seeing your uni friends who proudly know the rules to Sexy Roman Numerals and don't think twice about popping into your room for a "chat" that lasts five hours.

Your uni room

Your uni room might be smaller and more suspiciously stained than your room at home, but at least your sister can't nick your clothes from Warwick, and there was no chance your mum could see you binge watching Netflix instead of writing your essay. It might be Christmas, but that isn't going to stop your dad from opening your blinds at 9am.

POP!

Yes, POP! is terrible. And yes, we know it's nothing like a night out with your home friends. And yes, you have to get to the brink of alcohol poisoning to enjoy it. But no Warwick student can deny the sheer, unadulterated pleasure of screaming Mr Brightside with your mates before inhaling an overpriced kebab from the burger van outside – all while dressed in the most bizarre post-circling costume that brings no judgement whatsoever.

Purple

It would be a sin to include POP! without also mentioning Purple. By Christmas break, freshers have learnt the golden rule of getting two cups with your pitcher, and they've definitely competed in more boat races than Oxford and Cambridge combined. However, it feels wrong to order Purple when you're not at Warwick – Snakebite who?

That one fit person in all your lectures

When you are sat at home in your Christmas onesie and not in a lecture hall, it becomes impossible to stop thinking about the eye contact you have with the only fitty on your course. You hope they'll come back in January still single and with no surprise unflattering haircuts. We all need something to get us through lectures, but you'll definitely be missing that eye-candy when everyone else around you is cuffed this Christmas time.

Leamington at Christmas

Despite the fact that getting on a U1 on first attempt is about as likely as you making your Thursday 9am – you'll miss the proximity to McDonald's, Wagamamas and the sticky floor of Kelsey's. Whilst the Christmas light switch on might have been freezing, at least you got you got some cute insta pics and felt festive AF.

Vialli's, obviously

It's a Warwick student institution, so not even pigs in blankets can fill the Vialli's shaped hole in your heart over Christmas. Nowhere at home can you rock up in a sweatshirt and trainers and order chicken nuggets at 2:30am, when you haven't even been out clubbing.

Curiositea

You'll miss being able to sink down into the squashy sofas and justify eating that much whipped cream. When you're home for Christmas and eating actual meals, suddenly the sugar doesn't seem so necessary. Plus, you're yet to find anywhere at home where you can look the barista in the eyes and order a "Gimme Gimme Gimme" on an ABBA themed week.

Your flatmates and housemates

You'll miss arguing with your flatmates about doing the bins and watching mould grow on their unwashed dishes. Actually, you won't miss that, but at least your flatmates don't judge you for making smiley face potatoes at 2am like your family does. Decorating your flat brought you all closer together, even the two that committed flatcest, only for Christmas to tear you all apart again.

Geese

Geese are central to Warwick student life, just as much a part of campus as the Arts Centre and Rootes Grocery are. You'll miss seeing them waddle around campus on your way to a seminar, and you know you can't wait to come back after Christmas to see the goslings in the spring term.
