The best places to sleep in the Boots Library

Otherwise known as the ‘Boots Hotel’

Those not privileged enough to live in Gill Street South know that one cannot simply stumble to a nearby home and fall into drunken slumbers after a night at one of Nottingham’s esteemed nightclubs. Instead, we are faced with the journey home on a night bus and their lingering odours of sweat, shame and Big Macs.

However when we miss the famous 3:15am last bus in Nottingham, any good feelings you had disappear when you are forced to contemplate wasting money on a taxi or the long, long walk home.

Though salvation is at hand for long-distance club goers who miss their last bus as there is an untapped resource that lies right under your noses – the Boots Library.

Just think about it, a 24-hour library. How has this not translated in our drunken minds to “Boots Hotel”? This may be a breakthrough in itself, but before you lies a wealth of sleeping arrangements.

Fourth floor, first computer row

The most basic of sleeping locations but rest your body on one of these chair and your feet on another and you have a comfortable location to rest your weary head. The little table is even the same height as the chairs so you can rest your legs, too.

Group Study Sofas

These are very numerous in the library and the most bed-like you will find. They are especially recommended to the taller student as the extra square pillow at the top makes for a lengthy makeshift resting place. No studying going on here, just your Jägermeister odour and, if you’re unfortunate, an arse crack.

Ground floor study pods

Though you should always be reluctant to call something a pod that doesn’t have peas inside, that’s exactly what you will be calling it as you rest undisturbed and hidden in a snug cocoon. Except in the morning you won’t emerge as a beautiful butterfly but a dirty hungover moth.

Upper-floor study pods

Even more comfortable and better suited to the taller student as they are a little bigger but also have the added appeal of being hidden on the upper floors and being a bit out of the way.

Padded sofas

As wide as bunk bed and a padding that gives them a mattress like quality. Rather scarce in the library but not a bad choice for kip.

Basic sofas

These are found on every floor in various places but are really the poor man’s choice. Short and not particularly comfortable but still cheaper than Nottingham Cars.

Underground floor sofas

The final choice for a rest, apart from actually just falling asleep on a chair, is on the underground floor referred to in the library as the -1 floor. They are very comfortable and you get to lay down at full length as the armrests are low enough for you to rest your feet on.

That is all, just remember if you sleep in one of the more obvious locations then pop a book over your face while you sleep so it looks like you’re just a hard working student. Ideally something that would make you fall asleep reading too, like Land Law or anything by Karl Marx.
