After an in-depth investigation of the matter (and the library toilets), The Stand can reveal that a poster purporting to warn students not to masturbate in library loos is a fraud. The notice appears to be a copy-cat of a virtually identical prank pulled at Durham University.

The University PR Office confirmed the hoax this evening. For those still unsure, a librarian pointed out to the stand that a cursory examination of the notice reveals that the stamp in the bottom right corner belongs to the University Finance Department, rather than a Library stamp, which is used on official notices.

In fact, far from discouraging such secret bathroom breaks, the Library have stocked Solitary Sex : A Cultural History of Masturbation in the Short Loan section (class mark: HQ447.L2).

As of 7pm this evening, still available.
