Weather warning for Fife continues as university comes to a standstill

Library closures, lectures cancelled and a whole lot of snow

As I'm sure you've noticed, the strikes haven't been the only thing causing chaos this week, The Beast from the East came in thick and fast throughout Tuesday night and the whole of yesterday, causing chaos throughout St. Andrews.

With individual lecturers and tutors making the decision to cancel lectures and tutorials yesterday, the university today have cancelled all teaching. In an email the Proctor said: "In view of the continuing severe weather conditions, police warnings about travel and the fact that several university buildings will need to remain closed until later today, the decision has been taken to suspend all teaching for today."

Despite the information given this morning in an email, the University later confirmed on Facebook that the library will remain closed all day today, however should be re-opening tomorrow.

The Union building is still open, as is Rectors Cafe, however the main bar is not serving food today and many of the services such as the cash office will remain closed due to staff shortages. No word on whether the bar and 601 will be open tonight or tomorrow, but look out for updates. The Your Union events page posted about an hour ago that Saturday's Glitterball has regrettably been cancelled.

The Sports Centre is operating reduced hours today and is therefore closing at 3pm with the view to open at 8am tomorrow morning, and again no word on how long that will stay open for.

Stay safe and look out for any more updates.
