Library to extend its opening hours
St Andrews students gain more spare time in which to do their degree
Starting in Week 5 of this academic year, the Main Library will permanently extend its opening hours during term time to 8am – 2am, 7 days a week.
The lengthened opening hours are a response to feedback from the Student Library Survey of November 2013. Though there are no 24-Hour Library-a-thons in sight yet, staff contracts have been renegotiated and the University administration has provided additional funding to satisfy the demands of students wishing to faff about on the ground floor while pretending to learn.
The Student Association has been crusading for enhanced study spaces since last fall and, according to an Association press release, believe that this improvement is an “achievement for student representation”. In fact, this is just one part of a plan to relieve the pressure on student study spaces in the town. Later on in the semester we should also see a new area in the Gateway building.
Man of the hour and Director of Representation Ondrej Hajda, who spearheaded the effort, said, “I would like to thank everyone involved in the negotiations – from our Class Representatives, School Presidents, and SRC members, to the Library, Estates and other University staff – for being dedicated to continuous improvement of the St Andrews student experience.”
