Union Bar redevelopment hits close to home

The Union Bar will close for next semester on December 20th.

With the Union under a layer of scaffolding, wrap around banners and builders’ bums, the promise of brand-spanking new amenities has kept the student body on their toes with anticipation.  The next step, the redevelopment of the main bar, is finally kicking off.  From the 20th December the space will be closed while “Sandy’s Bar” and a more open socialising space are constructed, with the goal being completion by August 2014.

This does not mean however, that a mass exodus to the Vic or Lizard is on the cards. To make up for the fact that the home of the jager-bomb in St Andrews will be no more, the union are sprucing up Venue 1’s tucked away bar.  It will be repainted, the heating will be turned on (worrying that this hasn’t been the case beforehand), TV screens will be installed for the sports followers, the drinks range will be expanded, and the sofas and pool tables will be moved from the main bar.

With Venue 1’s new look and Venue 2’s continual availability, the union is still in the running for creating a good night out.  So before you all head home for Christmas, go and say a fond, or not so fond, farewell, to the bar which has so many memories for us all. Chin-chin.
