The Non-Violence Project (NVP) has launched in St Andrews, becoming only the second university in the wolrd have the privilege of piloting this project.

The goal of NVP is to equip university students with the tools they need to inspire conflict resolution and to promote non-violence in schools and on playing fields.

The event started in St. Salvator’s Quad and included speeches from the founders of the NVP. It continued in front of the library with golfer Dustin Johnson who helped unveil a carbon fiber statue of the NVP’s famous knotted gun.

This symbol, originally created by Swedish artist, Carl Fredrick, is supposed to stand as a memorial tribute to John Lennon – a man known for promoting pacifism.

Look out for The Stand‘s interview with the two founders of NVP.
