At St Andrews, we’re already ahead of the hot new trend for Spring/Summer 2012 – coloured jeans. Sporting them in every shade possible from pastel to neon, it can be hard not to spot at least 3 or 4 people rocking coloured jeans or chinos on your way to the Library.

However, as the days get sunnier, the rest of the fashion world has finally caught up with us and realised that coloured trousers are the way forward. With sugary pastel shades spotted on the catwalk at 3.1 Philip Lim and brights splashed across Calvin Klein’s hot Summer campaign featuring Lara Stone, and in Gap’s comeback campaign. Everyone from Pippa Middleton to Jessica Alba has been spotted sporting a pair of colourful jeans, also proving that you can work them no matter what your personal style is. A popular choice for golfers, coloured trousers are a great addition to any preppy wardrobe, but when paired with a leather jacket and vintage tee they look great on those who are a bit more alternative.

There are tons of coloured trousers in stores this season, available in every colour, shade and style you can imagine. Whether you’re after a vibrant yellow skinny jean, a cool mint shade or a neon pink pair of cut-offs you’re bound to find them. What’s even better is that there are loads of great jeans out there to suit every budget. Check out our guide of the best jeans available at every price range…

Total bargain – Hit up H&M on Market Street ASAP for a slim-fit trouser in pink, green, red or dark blue for only £14.99. An amazing steal!

Treat yourself – Check out Zara if pink is the colour you’re after – they have some great pairs in various shades of pink with some nice detailing. Alternatively, Oasis has a wide range colours at a reasonable price of £45. If you’re feeling extra daring try their electric blue Swallow Cherry crop jeans, which have a cute bird pattern embroidered all over them.

Splurge – J. Crew boasts a beautiful selection of coloured pastel and bright jeans and at just over £100 they are worth the investment for their classic style. If you’re feeling extra generous, treat yourself to a pair of J Brand’s coloured skinny jeans – their neon-lilac 811 jeans are so major.

Make the most of the nicer weather this week with a cheery pair of jeans. Not a fan of the typical St Andrews look? Try a pair anyway and incorporate them into your own personal style. Besides, with every colour under the sun available, you’re bound to find a pair that no one else has.
