A walk for Darcy: Monte Netball Team are fundraising for their late President

They are fundraising for The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants

Monte Netball Team are fundraising for Darcy Coomber, who suddenly and peacefully passed away in her University home on the 27th January 2021.

Alongside completing her degree in Politics, Darcy was elected club President 2020-21 of Monte Netball.

Darcy left a huge impact on many, and her kindness and love for life has inspired the Monte Netball Team to organise this fundraiser for the charity The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants.

The charity has a team of lawyers supporting people to secure their immigration status and rights in the UK, as well as a campaigns and communications team working to get fairer immigration rules. They also work closely with politicians to campaign for changes to cruel and discriminatory immigration policies. Darcy was very passionate about this topic – her dissertation focused on the need for change in how the media reports on migrants.

The club is walking the distance equivalent of Southampton to Amsterdam, then from Amsterdam to Prague, and then back to Southampton – a massive 3,000km.

This route was chosen because, despite having both tour t-shirts ready, Darcy had never been on a Monte Netball tour, and so the team are walking the distance to get her there.

The team surpassed their original goal of £1,000 in a mere five hours, and they want to keep the fundraising going, raising as much money as possible for a cause Darcy was so passionate about. £3,810 has been raised so far.

The motto of the walk, and of Darcy’s legacy is four words: Do it for Darcy.

These words are to remind us all to live every day to its full in honour of Darcy.
