Great news for SURFC, as the official England Rugby and Samsung Sport Facebook pages have uploaded a video of a fantastic try by the team.

The try is in the running to win the Samsung Try of the Month, an award presented by England Rugby.

The video is slowly going viral, with over 80,000 views on the England Rugby page and counting since 9am this morning; great publicity for University of Southampton Rugby Club.

The team are also in the running to win £1,000 of the latest Samsung technology to upgrade Southampton’s rugby clubhouse.

The video certainly shows university level rugby at its finest. The attacking tactics are sleek, quick and appear effortless as Zakk Scorer and Tom Childand fling the ball past defenders so that Sam Lindsay can plunge past the try-line.

Sam Lindsay is both surprised and delighted by the amount of attention his try is now receiving.

I was just quite surprised the video got the coverage! It’s good to get recognition for a great team try, and it shows the effort we’re putting in as a club. It’s great for the rugby club to get the coverage also, and hopefully it will encourage people to come and get involved!

Club captain, George Taylor- Walker said:

Absolutely brilliant work by the backs and an excellent finish by Sam, we decided to upload it for Try of the Month and fingers crossed we win it!

Members of SURFC aren’t the only ones delighted with England Rugby’s decision to upload the clip. The coverage the try is receiving is great promotion for the whole university. Katie Lightowler, SUSU’s Sports Devlopment VP, said:

I think it’s safe to say that having SURFC’s try shared by the England Rugby page has made my day and made a lot of the Rugby boys’ day as well. It’s been fab coverage for Team Southampton – the boys should be very proud!

Big well done to Sam and the rest of SUFRC. Fingers crossed they win, and make sure to share the video.
