Southampton has once again played host to a fire, this time at Bencraft Halls.

The fire broke out in the laundry room of block A just after midnight and involved a washing machine.

Fire engines attend the incident

Students were evacuated from blocks A and B while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

One student suffered from smoke inhalation and had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Two fire engines from St Mary’s and another engine from Eastleigh were called to the scene at 12:30am and left at 1:53am.

This is just the latest in a string of fires affecting student areas of Southampton.
