A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped in Flares

It happened on Sunday


A 22-year-old woman was allegedly attacked in Flares over this weekend, leading to a rape investigation being launched by Northumbria Police.

The incident is reported to have happened in the ladies toilets just after midnight on Sunday. The woman told the police she was raped.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection to the incident, and The Chronicle has reported that he has been released under investigation after questioning.

Northumbria Police are appealing to anyone with information to call them on 101 quoting log 41 27/11/2017.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Enquires into the incident are ongoing but officers are now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

"If you were in the area of the toilets at the time and have information that could help police, please call 101."
