New Bar On Queens Road?

Students excited at prospect of a new bar in Clarendon’s Queens Road…

| UPDATED

Thirsty students in Clarendon will soon have another watering hole.

The perfect opportunity for those second and third years too busy to leave Clarendon Park on cold winter nights has arisen with the talk of a new bar opening on 106 Queens Road.

The bid for a licence has already been requested to Leicester City Council which will effectively transform the former Italian restaurant into a bar called ‘Sidewalk Cafe.’

The decision is to be made today which has worried some residents.

As the bar plans to stay open until 2 am on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays as well as occasionally feature live music, concerns have been raised about the noise it will make.

At least 21 residents and business owners have already asked the council to refuse the late hours the bar intends on staying open until.

Some students disagree with the complaints:

Katy, 2nd year

“I think it’s a great idea. It will be a nice place to relax or have a study break.

Lindsay, 2nd year

“I don’t think noise will be too much of a problem, it’s a pub- not Shabang or Republic.”

Whereas some agree with the complaints:

Alex, 3rd year

“Sounds fun. But if I lived next door to that pub and had to listen to its music through my walls, I can see how it would annoying for some residents. Besides, aren’t there already two or three pubs on Queens Road?”
