The ultimate guide to upcoming October events in Glasgow

Whether you’re into live comedy, old school club nights, all things foodie or hard techno, there’s something for everyone


As the first deadlines and exams start to come into view, you’ve realised that you don’t have as much time on your hands as you think, and sacrifices will have to be made in order to attend your favourite events.

Here’s a small selection of the best events coming up in Glasgow over the next month, not forgetting the all-important Halloween night.

HALLOWEEN

Oh, the decisions. Halloween is arguably one of the biggest nights of the year, so you’d better get your plans sorted, get a costume ready, and start counting down the days. Here’s some of what’s on.

Don’t Drop Halloween, Sub Club, 31st October, 9pm, Tickets £10

Sub Club promises to deliver the goods with Scuba and Monoloc headlining until 3am.

Pressure Halloween, SWG3, 28th October, 10pm, Tickets £22.50

SWG3 host their hugely popular Pressure night, headlined by Slam and Surgeon. George Fitzgerald is also playing. Unmissable.

Hot Since 82, 29th October, SWG3, 9pm, Tickets £21 (Second Release)

Halloween special Knee Deep in Glasgow boasts an impressive line up including minimalist house and techno DJ Michael Mayer, while Francois K is an expert at combining electronic styles with funky disco beats. Good vibes all round.

Hive Halloween, GUU, 27th October, 32 University Avenue, 10pm, Entry £3-£5

Get down early to this Halloween take on Hive’s classic Thursday club night. Sure to be a busy one full of scary students.

QMU Presents Halloween, 22 University Gardens, 31st October, 9pm, Entry £2-£5

Live music, DJs, free shots and sweets. And if your Halloween outfit is ticking all the boxes then head over and see if you can win £100 for best dressed!

Kenny Rodgers “The Gamblers Last Deal” Tour, 31st October, 6.30pm, SSE Hydro, Tickets from £32.50

Guys, it’s big Kenny’s last ever tour. If you don’t know any of his songs, where have you been? It’s probably gonna get emotional.

Tam O Shanter’s Halloween Evening, The Bothy, 31st October, 7-10pm, Tickets £25.95

A good old Scottish shindig with music, stories and poems. And a three course meal.

Prides, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, 31st October, 8.30pm, Tickets £10

An exceptional Glasgow trio with electro indie vibes and synth-led performances.

Laldy Comedy New Material Night, The Duchess of Duke Street, 31st October, 8.30pm-11pm, Free Entry

Enjoy a range of comedians from novices to professionals, plus a professional headliner. Funny and free.

BEST OF THE REST

Regression Sessions, 21st October, SWG3, 9pm, Tickets £10-£15

If you’re into electronic music with a twist and enjoy ‘weird and wonderful’ themes and entertainment, then look no further. Regressions Sessions make their debut in Glasgow at SWG3 and you don’t wanna miss it. They’re going all out with an end of the world ‘Red Light Apocalypse’ theme. Previous events have featured bouncy castles, face painting and ball pits- it’s gonna be a whole lotta fun. Seriously, check out their aftermovies on YouTube.

Glasgow Alternative & Burlesque Fair, 22nd October, QMU, 12-6pm, Tickets £5-£8

QMU boasts a range of exhibitors showcasing a variety of clothes, accessories and quirky items to splash your cash on. Enjoy browsing through some raunchy art prints, fetish accessories and electro play equipment (oi oi) or pick up some bath and beauty products, home wine tasting vouchers and get a vintage makeover. Throughout the afternoon legendary burlesque performers Havana Hurricane and John Celestus will make an appearance, with music from DJ Brian Asylum.

Gary Tank Commander Live- Mission Quite Possible, 20th-22nd October, SSE Hydro 8pm, Tickets from £45

Well I cannae believe it, Greg McHugh, also know as ‘naw it’s me- Gary!’ and star of the BAFTA award- winning sitcom Gary Tank Commander, comes to Glasgow for a live show with his armeh squad. Expect the best kind of cheesy comedy around, puar brilliant Scottish patter and lots of referencing to chips and cheese. It’s gonna be amaaazin’.

 

Subculture- Denis Sulta, Harri & Domenic, Sparky (Live), 29th October, Sub Club 11pm, Tickets £10 (First Release)

Glasgow’s man of the year Denis Sulta is back again, combining house, techno and disco styles to create an atmosphere like no other. Harri & Domenic continue to dominate UK house nights and bring the best to Subculture. Expect energy, innovation, dirty basslines, lethal kicks and intense build ups. Then just wait for that drop baby.

CLUBS, PUBS AND UNIONS

Viper, Great Western Road (Open every day except Tuesdays)

Choose from Monday Night Heat, I Love Wednesdays, Viper Saturdays or new club nights Plus.One Thursdays and FOMO Fridays. Cheap entry and even cheaper drinks. With different DJs each night, music varies from house, R ‘n’ B and chart.

Glasgow University Union (GUU), 32 University Avenue (All week)

The GUU runs weekly events including a beer bar quiz night, snooker tournaments and an open mic nights. The famous Beer Bar is open every night until 2am. Along from the union is The Hive, which boasts a hugely popular Thursday night out with its value for money – drinks, bangin’ sound system, visual effects and podiums. Oooh.

Queen Margaret Union (QMU), 22 University Gardens (All week)

QMU also has weekly events running such as QMU pool league, feedback open mic/jam session, the big Wednesday night pub quiz, live band showcases and Friday Union quizzes. Fortnightly treats include karaoke and literary open mic nights.
