Glasgow students spend tenner a week on booze

Living cheap doesn’t mean being cheap

Glasgow’s students are the biggest savers, according to a recent survey.

The NatWest Student Living Index recently published a list ranking the most popular 25 University towns by how much students spend.

And £9.80 a week is budgeted in to spend on booze in Glasgow.

Priorities come cheap in Glasgow

But despite Weegie students being the most economical, they also spent the most on food, working out to be £28.90 per week.

The survey was based on 2236 students and looked at the living “essentials” such as grocery shopping, eating out, travel costs and money spent on alcohol – naturally.

But despite many students neglecting a big shop in order to buy booze, Glasgow students spend £4.30 more than the weekly average of £24.60 on groceries.

Second year Nick said: “My flatmate lived off pesto and couscous so he could build a throne out of boxes of cider.”

Rachel, a third year, said: “ I spent the first 2 weeks drinking water with vodka as I couldn’t afford mixer.”

Bristol students came out thirstiest, with an average of £12.90 spent on drink.
