One true voice: Semi-Toned appear on The One Show

Exeter a cappella group sing on prime-time TV

Exeter a cappella group Semi-Toned featured on The One Show last night.

Having battled through to the final of the nationwide UK Voice Festival, the group gained national exposure yesterday when a clip of their performance at the final was broadcast on the BBC’s prime-time programme.

The student-led group may not have won the national singing competition last weekend, but they’ve certainly won our hearts with fantastic renditions of such hits as Muse’s Knights of Cydonia.

Edward Scott, a member of the group, said: “The final was a tremendous honour, and I feel we really made an impact and put Exeter’s name on the UK collegiate a cappella circuit .

Being on The One Show was exciting, but not as exciting as the fact that a cappella is clearly becoming a more popular art form.”

The musical trend first took off in the USA, but has now reached Exeter, with seven groups in the A Cappella Society.

Semi-Toned are ensuring they make their mark with the up-coming recording of a debut album and participation in the Edinburgh Fringe run in August.

Other guests on last night’s One Show included antique-hunter Fiona Bruce and extreme fisherman Robson Green.
