Students give profs the third degree

BBC quiz show to be recorded on campus and we’re backing our undergrads!

It’s a grown-up version of hit kids’ show Get Your Own Back and it’s coming to campus next week.

Radio 4 quiz show The 3rd Degree will be recorded in Exeter on Wednesday, pitting students against their lecturers in a battle of the brains.

But while that might sound boring, the show – hosted by comedian Steve Punt – promises to be a laugh.

Stick it up yer punter… Steve Punt

Rounds include ‘Highbrow, Lowbrow’ where students answer the Universe’s big questions and profs deal with pop-culture conundrums.

Punt also hosts Radio 4’s The Now Show with Hugh Dennis, so has form in the funny department.

Three as-yet-unamed undergrads will take on three of Exeter’s finest minds in the Amory Moot Room. The professors taking part are Robbie MacDonald (Biosciences), Michelle Ryan (Psychology), and John Dupré (Philosophy).

Prof Dupré said: “We do have some very bright students, and I have a little trepidation at the possibility of appearing to know less about philosophy than the undergraduates.”

Students can sit in the audience for free and the pre-recorded show will be broadcast in late March.

The quiz will be recorded in the Parker Moot Room on 30 January at 5.30pm. Email [email protected] to register for your place.
