Every week The Tab brings you all the results and the table from college rugby’s top-flight.

This week saw leaders John’s continue their impressive season with a drubbing of Catz, while Jesus narrowly overcame Girton and surprise-package Trinity fell just short against Downing.

Girton 17 – 22 Jesus

A spirited Girton forward effort was narrowly eclipsed by a second-half comeback from Jesus. Girton took the lead early on, pushing the visitors’ depleted pack over the line to open the scoring. Following another try from Girton Rob Stevens’ chip and run try just before half time spurred Jesus to action. With two further tries and some valiant defense against Girton’s sustained pressure late on the visitors took the victory and kept their faint title hopes alive.

John’s 89 – 0 Catz

John’s heavy defeat of Catz, the biggest of the season, was no surprise to anyone following this year’s top division. A Catz side that was promoted on the strength of its now-departed 3rd players have lost every game this season, falling to a 70-0 loss to Jesus and conceding 267 points with only 15 scored. As for John’s, their title march goes on, Thomas, Torrens and Hall all scoring two tries against against Catz. Jesus’ failure to put a big score past Girton now leaves them hoping for a shock Downing victory next week against the Red Boys to open up the league again.

Downing 15 – 10 Trinity

In a game dominated by two strong defensive lines and undermined by poor refereeing Downing ran out with a narrow victory. Keith Shagyard opened the scoring for Downing before fast forward play from Trinity levelled the game. After the interruption of an Addenbrooke’s ambulance, Downing rapped up the game to leave them just behind Trinity in the table with their postponed game against Jesus in hand.
